HIGH SPEED LURES CATCH FISH!
Until the late 1960's trolling for big game fish was done primarily with natural baits,
rigged to swim life real fish. These trolling baits were usually trolled on flat lines or
in out riggers in a four or five bait spread. in the late 1960's many tournament pros
began to troll Daisey chains rubber squid off their riggers as teasers, from which
hungry fish could be baited off the teasers.

The first plastic high speed lures were introduced by pioneers like Bob Schneider,
who tested his earliest lures behind Navy destroyers in the South Pacific. Bob was
later statIoned in Andros Island Bahamas, and introduced his lures to the Bahama's
Billfish anglers community in 1969 at club tournaments Chub Cay, Bahamas. Captain
jack Stevens, fishing with sport fishing pioneer Charlie Johns on the Datona 43 was
one of the first captains to troll these new lures at speeds up to 15 knots. I fished
with jack and Charlie in two tournaments that year and we could nOt keep the big fish
(Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Wahoo and big Dolphin) off those high speed trolling
lures made by Bob Schneider. Almost instantly the high speed lure became the
standard for catching really big fish. The excitement created by the increased speed
made the fish much more aggressive.
